Why Self Storage Unit Insurance is Important

Why Self Storage Unit Insurance is Important

When storing your valuables at a local self-storage facility, one important thing to keep in mind is why insurance for storage units is important.

All Aboard Storage requires all customers to have some form of self-storage insurance to cover their rental unit. This insurance can be in a form you can purchase through us from a company we partner with, or you can also provide proof of insurance from your personal home owner’s insurance.

Insurance is never a fun subject, but one that’s extremely important to protect you.

If a situation arises where one customer breaks the rules and stores things they were not supposed to and something like a fire breaks out, your valuables could be in danger. Some things that could possibly happen could include but are definitely not limited to:

  • Customer negligence
  • Fire
  • Flood
  • Toxic chemical spill
  • Natural events such as hurricanes or tornadoes

We’re not in the insurance business. That’s not the product that we specialize in which is why we only partner with an insurance company to offer competitive rates and encourage you to bring in proof of coverage from your home owner’s insurance to get around that extra fee. We’re in the business of being the caretaker of what you value, so making sure every customer is covered is our central priority.

Do I Need Storage Unit Insurance?

For some local self-storage facilities like All Aboard Storage, it’s automatically required, but if your storage company doesn’t require it, we highly recommend that you get some form of storage unit insurance coverage or you’re running a risk that you don’t need to.

Does Home Owner’s Insurance Cover Storage Units?

You might already be covered if you have home owner’s insurance. Since all insurance policies are different, we can’t tell you if your policy covers your things at a storage facility. You’ll need to check with your insurance company.

Does Renter’s Insurance Cover Storage Units?

Since all insurance policies are different, we can’t tell you if your renter’s insurance covers storage units. Again, you need to check with your insurance company.

Protect What you Value

You cover your car, your home, & your life so if you’re storing things that you value, make sure they’re covered from loss.

We care about every customer which is why we take this seriously. Come in and talk to us sometime. We’re happy to help you.

How to Load a Moving Truck

How to Load a Moving Truck

You’ve packed all your things, started going down your checklists, but now you’re facing another challenge, and that’s how to load a moving truck.

Since you already have your things packed away in boxes, all there is left is packing a truck and getting it rolling to its destination.

There are many ways to pack a truck but we’ll highlight some tips here:

Start With Large Items First

One strategy is to start with the larger items first like furniture, desks, or beds, load them into the truck, and then fit things around and on top of and around them. This will create a nice foundation that won’t move around too much and might help brace other things.

Building Blocks – Build a wall

Another strategy that some people swear by is to first take all of your boxes and build a solid wall in the back thereby using up all of the space available.

Spread the Weight Evenly

Spreading the weight evenly over the entire load will help ensure that the truck isn’t leaning to one side. More importantly, though, it will help make sure that you don’t experience an avalanche of your things as you’re en-route.

Protect Large Fragile Items – Like Mirrors, Glass Table Tops, & Pictures

Some large items like glass tabletops can be a challenge to move since one wrong bump can shatter the entire item. Things like these can either be wedged in between soft mattresses, wrapped in blankets, or even boxed up if you have a large amount of cardboard and bubble wrap.

Disassemble Large Furniture

Some things can take up much more space when assembled like tables and desks. It’s possible to flip these upside down or maybe sideways, but the easiest way to handle large items like this is to disassemble them and reassemble them later. This will give you more options when packing furniture in a moving truck.

Load Couches Vertically

One thing you might not have thought of is orientation. Couches seem easier to load horizontally, but another way to give yourself a bit more space might be to put a couch on its side, filling in that much more vertical space.

Play Tetris With Space

Loading a moving truck is an art that you can also think of like a game of Tetris. Every possible space matters – like drawers in a desk or cubbies in a bookshelf. Those spaces inside furniture are valuable and can be used!

Secure Everything

The most important thing about transporting your things is making sure that nothing gets broken. Whether you protect things by using blankets as padding, straps to hold things together or down, or just situate your items properly, make sure to take that extra time to keep your things safe.

Call the Experts

The one last thing you could consider is if you want to take the easy way out, hire movers to load your truck.

There is no one best way to pack a moving truck, but there are some things not to do! Most of these are common sense but having helpful tips for packing a moving truck can go a long way toward having a successful move.

Tortugas Baseball Game 2015 – Company Event

This past Saturday, All Aboard Properties held our company event welcoming all employees to the Daytona Tortugas baseball game and what an event it was!

The picnic area was packed with managers from All Aboard Storage, maintenance crews, All Aboard Properties personnel, as well as family members of all ages. These events are great for bringing the entire company together for a little food, fun, and memories.

Some people like CEO Andy Clark donned their All Aboard Angels shirt, which is the charity wing of our company, and all employees had smiles as the Tortugas swept the field bringing in a win for our area.

The day lead into beautiful night and capped off with an impressive fireworks display that lasted much longer than most people were expecting, but imprinted lasting memories for a good time to come.

We are proud of our culture here at All Aboard Properties and strive to keep our employees connected with each other. Until the next event!

Using Self Storage Facilities for Local Parking

Using Self Storage Facilities for Local Parking

If you’re in the situation where you have a car, RV, boat, work truck or the like, where do you park it?

You might try parking your vehicle at home or maybe even try getting permission to park locally somewhere, but is there something better than the below options?

Parking your Work Truck at Home in an HOA

If you live in an HOA and want to try parking your work truck with your business signage on it, good luck. HOAs are one of the most restrictive places to live when it comes to things such as this. Most HOAs have rules against this, but some people try it for a short amount of time.

Parking your RV Locally for Free

Trying to park your RV for free can be a challenging adventure requiring you to constantly keep your RV on the move to keep your vehicle within your local parking time limits. This usually means overnight RV parking gets hard to find.

There are also Central Florida RV Parks, but if you plan to leave your RV, this might be a more expensive option.

Getting Permission to Park your Vehicle at a Business

Some businesses will gladly give you the OK to park your vehicle at a business or in a back lot that’s not being used, but that opens you up to other issues. The big drawback to this one would be security since you might be parking your vehicle away from watching eyes, security cameras, and completely open to the general public or passerby.

Using Local Storage Facilities for RV Parking, Boat Parking, or Car Parking

One of the best options that’s free of hassles and can even provide indoor or covered parking is reserving a parking space at your local self-storage facility.

This will give you the best of all world’s when it comes to:

  • Ease of access
  • Security
  • Peach of mind
  • Protection from the elements (if covered)

If you’re in need of some local parking in Daytona Beach, Port Orange, or Ormond Beach areas, consider All Aboard Storage to keep your vehicle safe and secure.
